actually, the technology works with ethnic stereotypes very much. This is understandable, because those same stereotypes (i.e., ideas about the characteristics of a person, which we attributed to him on the basis of belonging to a particular nation) play a very important role in our relations with representatives of their own and other ethnic groups.
Today I will talk about the technique that I recently used while conducting training for Russian and Chinese students (I have already talked about this experience here:https://www.b17.ru/article/125802/)
so, of course, to start their own stereotypes need to "see". We have done this in the literal sense: I was asked to paint a portrait of a typical Russian and Chinese students.
Then the students presented their work, talking about those traits that were reflected in these figures. Of course, it already gives a very good material for discussion: the images are very controversial and unrealistic.
But then I thought it important to give students the opportunity to watch each other more carefully, to see beyond the glaring racial differences the individuality of each person.
For this I used an exercise that many years ago, found in the book T. G. Grigorieva, L. V. Berlin, Etc. Usoltsev "foundations of constructive communication".
To perform the job are invited to volunteer, the task is to arrange all group members in the growth, and then to take its place in this series. After that any other team member can "check" the result of placing something in it to adjust when necessary.
In the second part of the task is proposed to arrange the group members according to eye color from the lightest to the darkest.
Finally, the third task due to the fact that group members need to place the temperature of the hands from the coldest to the warmest.
quite a few times I noticed that it was easy, it would seem that exercise almost always causes the great interest among the participants, and in various groups; helps people to establish contact and to move in the cohesion of the group.
"did Not disappoint" it was me in the situation of the training of intercultural interaction: the students were told that it was important to look closely at each other, thinking about that race other than their own and therefore often perceived by us as "the same" people have individual characteristics even in appearance, not to mention personal qualities and traits.
