In the evolution of a therapeutic group and its translational movements in the transition to a new stage of development the stage a kind of fading, when the energy in the group becomes viscous, and intervention of a therapist is focused on the promotion of the group. Participants feel fatigue, confusion. At this point it becomes necessary formation and support of new methods and forms of notation itself, and the search for new meanings of being in the group.
In my experience leading therapeutic groups there are several exercises, greatly facilitates the completion of this stage. Perhaps someone they know, still, I hope someone will be useful for practice or creative thinking and processing.
Exercise # 1 "My place"
Usually members of the group from the very beginning of its existence fixed in a certain place. All I know is, for example, Oli. It remains empty even in her absence. This place is on one side of her resource, her method of contact, position in the hierarchy (as an option) and a comfort zone, on the other hand, it has its limitations. To explore the area and live a new experience, I offer the following:
instructions: Please stand up from their seats and look around the room, walk around it, listen to their feelings, sensations, emotions. Now you need to find the place where you will be more comfortable more of all that you like.
Questions for clients:
Respond from their seats.
- What you feel in this place, and how changed your perception in a group of yourself and other participants?
- What is this place different from your permanent? What resources are available here? What (emotions) is in that place restrictions?
Therapist it is important to note:
- How moved the members of the group in relation to the therapist and to others?
- Who remained in his place, and chose it as the sole comfortable? About what is the evidence?
- What motivated the client in the change that is about him, about his life in the group (method of contact with other protective mechanisms).
Next, ask group members to put your chair into the desired position and sit down. The circle usually turns out slightly deformed, but the group energy and shape change. Participants become more open and alive.
Exercise # 2 "the Magic circle"
there is no Magic, but an exercise I like for high-quality personal and group results.
instructions: clockwise change in the chair of his neighbor.
If the group is large, it is possible the chairs to sign, to avoid confusion in identification.
sometimes I offer her chair, she watched. Very curious, what kind of meaning gives each participant your site.
Questions for clients:
- What you feel in this place?
- Someone with this chair see more, one less and how?
- What emotions feel, what to experience difficult?
- What resources and restrictions on this place?
Share experiences after each change.
the Therapist it is important to note the projection of the customers.
the Exercise lasts as long as the party will not sit down on your chair.
