Author's studies was in the rehabilitation center "Crossroads of Seven Roads" (Angarsk, Irkutsk oblast, Russia), as a method of psychological protection of patients – denial, projection, minimization, and rationalization of their addiction. It is assumed that the patients had previously attended lectures on the theme "Resistance to treatment", "Psychological protection". This exercise is eclectic in nature, does not claim to originality, and were conducted in accordance with the prevailing atmosphere in the group at that time. The city dump was also located in walking distance, which greatly facilitates this exercise.
Procedure: the session was held for patients of the two groups, the basic group (basic) and advanced (post rehabilitation), excluding the motivational group (beginners group). The leading helpers must be two person (co-host) to watch over compliance with the rules and objectives of the exercise.
the First part of the study: Leading after collecting two groups of participants to announce the purpose of the tour – "Today we have an unusual lesson – you have the opportunity to be journalists on the issue of addiction, all the rules of the centre continue during the tour. This is a trip to the city dump, where each of you will be able to communicate with its inhabitants, learn why they live, while noting in my notebook the types of psychological protection, which demonstrates the interviewee. Each of you can take any subject from the landfill, symbolizing your problem in recovery. Time is clearly defined – the tour lasts no more than 30-40 minutes."
After the tour all participants gather at a rehabilitation centre, preferably in some cozy quiet corner to create a group installation (of course, things from the landfill is better not to be in the room). Can be put in the center of a large sheet of hardboard on it and pay each participant in their items. Then everyone talks about your subject, what it means to him. The leader offers to join all the objects (using a thin wire or rope), thus indicating that the group all share the presence of similar problems, and the desire to cope with it. At the end of the presentation participants leading photographs* installation and all go on to the next part of the lesson in the room.
the Second part of the class: using a multimedia projector presenter shows a photo of a group installation. The leader offers to share feelings in a circle with all group members at the installation. Then they present the results of their interviews during the tour.
the host asks leading questions:
- was it Difficult to interview?
- How to cope with the task to of psychological defense, which showed the occupant of the dump?
- What were the feelings during the conversation and tour?
- do you See the manifestation of such psychological protection during the rehabilitation period?
- How it looks like your part of the installation?
- How do you feel now?
*Installation (eng. Inctallation – set) – spatial composition created from a variety of finished materials and forms (industrial and domestic items, natural objects, fragments of text and visual information). Engaging in extraordinary combinations, the thing is freed from its utilitarian function, acquiring a symbolic function.
* in addition to taking photos, possible video of the installation process, with the consent of the patients.
